The Best Mini Laptops You Can Buy

Those wanting a larger screen size should consider another type of computer notebook. The longer battery life and easy portability of mini laptop computers make them ideal for people who work in field or other out-of-office conditions. For what they are meant to do, mini laptop computers are fairly competent. They can surf the Internet at fairly good speeds with a wireless card.

Although there isn’t a headphone jack, Lenovo does include an adapter for connecting your wired headphones. Despite being a budget laptop, Acer outfitted the laptop with two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, and a MicroSD slot for additional storage. The computer has an impressive 10-hour battery life, making it a great option for those constantly on the go. Lenovo’s Chromebook Flex 5 is our favorite Chrome OS laptop for less than $500.

But they can’t run full desktop versions of apps like Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Office. And although Chrome OS can run the Android versions of those apps from the Google Play store, those versions are not as full-featured as their desktop counterparts and are sometimes awkward to use with a keyboard and mouse. Chrome OS does offer experimental support for Linux apps, but their performance isn’t great, and many of the complex high-quality desktop apps missing from Chrome OS are also missing from Linux anyway.

And if you absolutely have to go the ultra-compact route, I’d rather suggest one of the few 10-inch and sub-10-inch options in the next part of this article. These are still meant for daily use and not much in terms of performance, but they’re highly portable, inexpensive, and at least offer updated specs and good-quality displays. Most of these options are similar in specs, with 11-inch HD TN screens and Gemini Lake hardware. I lean towards the Asus L210 for the slightly nicer build and its reduced weight, but the HP Steam and IdeaPad are but that much different. You do get that AMD hardware in the IdeaPad 1, and that alone might justify a better look at it.

One of the MacBook Air’s best features is the Touch ID which allows users to simply press the Touch ID sensor in order to unlock security systems. The best overall laptop has to go to the Microsoft Surface Pro 6. It’s touch-screen and you can use the pen that comes with it to help you do your work. If you’re planning on watching a lot of content or listening to music on your laptop, check out the speakers. Most laptops have stereo speakers, but some speakers have special tuning that leads to better sound. You may also see laptops with DDR4 RAM and DDR3 RAM. DDR stands for Double Data Rate, and the number represents the version.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is what our reviewer calls the trifecta of power, portability, and performance. He put it to the test and called the laptop “an exceptional machine by any definition.” So, let’s break down those claims and see what this laptop has to offer. When Apple introduced the M1 chip in late 2020, it introduced the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro at the same time. They’re very similar, except the MacBook Pro is designed to push the M1 chip even harder. It has a fan for cooling, and an extra core in the CPU, and both of those traits make a world of difference.
